Short answer: DHA lists fourteen content areas for Pharmacist, including calculation, medication safety, over the counter medication and law and ethics. Practise calculations until they are automatic, revise therapeutics and counselling, and confirm your title and areas in the DHA guideline. DHA publishes no weights.
The core of your preparation
You know drugs well. The exam tests whether you can apply that knowledge to a patient: choosing between options, spotting an interaction, adjusting for renal function or counselling safely.
Make calculations automatic
DHA lists pharmacy calculation and compounding as a content area, so it is worth practising. Practise dose per kilogram, infusion rates, percentage solutions and dilutions with C₁V₁ = C₂V₂ until you can do them calmly under time pressure.
- Convert units first (mg, mcg, g, mL, L).
- Write the formula before you plug in numbers.
- Sense-check the answer. Does the dose look plausible for the patient?
Topics worth a closer look
Plan a week for each cluster.
- Cardiovascular, endocrine and infectious disease therapeutics.
- Adverse effects, contraindications and interactions.
- High-alert medicines and error prevention.
- Counselling points for common medicines.
- Legal and ethical dispensing responsibilities.
Practise in the question style
Scenario questions give you a patient, a prescription and a problem. Read the stem for details that change the answer, such as pregnancy, renal impairment or an allergy.
