Official figures

DHA exam format and pass mark by title.

The number of questions, the time and the pass score for each title, copied from DHA and dated.

Short answer: DHA prints the exam format for every title in its CBT Guideline (cover: Updated Sep 2026). Most titles have 150 questions in 3 hours, and that time includes registration. Pass scores run from 45 to 70 percent, for example 50 for a Registered Nurse and 60 for General Practice.

How to read this table

Find your title in the table for your profession. Each row shows the number of questions, the stated time and the pass score exactly as DHA prints them in its CBT Guideline. The code is the one DHA gives that title.

The time is the stated length of the whole exam appointment. DHA says the duration includes the registration, the process introduction and the exam content, so the time you have for answering is shorter than the hours shown. DHA does not say how long registration and the introduction take.

The pass score is a percentage of the questions. DHA also says it may activate or deactivate a specialty assessment, and change the assessment content, the exam format or the pass score, without updating the guideline. Read every figure as the position on the date we checked it.

A title that is not in the guideline is assessed by an oral assessment instead, for example certain consultant titles for physicians and dentists. This page does not cover the oral assessment.

The five categories at a glance

The table shows, for each category in the guideline, how many titles it lists and the range of questions, time and pass score across them. Allied health includes the 3 pharmacist titles, because DHA files them there.

Physicians

General Practice is 150 questions in 3 hours at 60 percent. The guideline lists 37 specialist titles with pass scores from 55 to 70 percent, and 6 consultant titles, all at 70 percent with 100 questions. Specialist Hematopathology also has 100 questions, and Laser Hair Reduction is a short privilege exam.

A single pass mark for doctors, which some preparation material quotes, does not match the guideline.

What DHA does not state

These are the things candidates often ask about and that DHA does not say in the documents we read. Where you see them stated as fact elsewhere, treat them as reported, not official.

Not stated by DHA

  • Single best answer. DHA says the exam format is Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). It does not say single best answer.
  • The number of answer options per question. Not stated.
  • Unscored or trial items. The guideline, the two manuals and the Sheryan FAQ do not mention them.
  • Negative marking. Not mentioned.
  • Sample questions. No official sample set was found in the guideline or on the DHA pages we read.
  • Domain weights. Each title lists coverage headings as a plain list with no percentages. The Assessment Manual says results are calculated from the number of correct answers and the weighting of each domain, but DHA does not publish the weights.
  • Your score. DHA shows pass or fail in your Sheryan account and says the score is not shared.

What can change and what this page cannot tell you

DHA can change the exam format, the content and the pass score without a new edition of the guideline, so a number on this page can be out of date even if the guideline still shows it. The cover date tells you when DHA last refreshed the document, not when each figure was set.

The pass score is not a prediction of your result and not a target for mock scores. DHA reports pass or fail only, and calculates results using domain weights that it does not publish. The table says what DHA states, nothing more.
