Nurses and midwives

DHA exam for registered nurse, assistant nurse and midwife.

Three exam codes, one pass score and two different outlines, all from DHA, plus what Meddex covers.

Short answer: DHA lists four nursing titles in its CBT Guideline (Updated Sep 2026): Registered Nurse, Assistant Nurse, Registered Midwife and Assistant Midwife (In-active). Each is 150 questions in 3 hours, including registration time. Pass scores are 50 percent, except 45 for Assistant Midwife. Midwife is a separate exam with nine content areas.

The four nursing titles (official)

Assistant Midwife (In-active) (MID5101)
150 questions, 3 hours including registration, pass score 45 percent. Listed as In-active in the guideline. Same nine coverage headings as Registered Midwife.
Assistant Nurse (ARN5061)
150 questions, 3 hours including registration, pass score 50 percent. Lists the same four coverage headings as Registered Nurse.
Registered Midwife (MID5104)
150 questions, 3 hours including registration, pass score 50 percent. A separate exam from Registered Nurse, with nine coverage headings.
Registered Nurse (RNT0312)
150 questions, 3 hours including registration, pass score 50 percent. Four coverage headings, no weights. The guideline also lists an item called Nursing Technician Blueprint among its references.

Registered Nurse and Assistant Nurse

Registered Nurse (RNT0312) and Assistant Nurse (ARN5061) have the same format: 150 questions in 3 hours and a 50 percent pass score. The guideline lists the same four content areas for both and the same reference list. It does not say how the two exams differ in content or level.

The four content areas are Unit Management and Leadership, Fundamentals, Maternal-Child Nursing, Adult Nursing. DHA gives no weights for them. The reference list names texts on pharmacology, nutrition, ethics, fundamentals, health assessment, medical-surgical nursing, maternal-newborn nursing, paediatric nursing, critical care, psychiatric nursing and community health, and an item called Nursing Technician Blueprint.

Registered Midwife and Assistant Midwife

Registered Midwife (MID5104) is a separate exam from Registered Nurse, with its own content: Antenatal Care, Intrapartum Care, Ethics and Legal Issues, Antepartum Care, Postpartum Care, Newborn Care, Gynecological Care, Pharmacology in Midwifery, Counseling and Education. That is nine areas, with no weights. It is 150 questions in 3 hours at 50 percent.

Assistant Midwife (MID5101) is listed as In-active in the guideline. It shows the same nine areas, 150 questions in 3 hours and a 45 percent pass score, the lowest in the guideline. If you hold this title, confirm with DHA whether the exam is open to you.

This page covers midwives in one section because the official facts are short, and Meddex does not have midwife material.

Time, questions and pass score in plain words

Every nursing title has 150 questions and a stated time of 3 hours. DHA says that time includes the registration, the process introduction and the exam content, so you have less than three hours for the questions themselves. DHA does not say how much less.

DHA reports pass or fail in your Sheryan account and says the score is not shared. It can change the content, the format or the pass score without updating its guideline. For the other professions, see the pass marks for every title.

What DHA does not state for these exams

The same gaps apply to every nursing title. Where a preparation site says otherwise, treat it as reported.

Not stated by DHA

  • Single best answer. DHA says the exam format is Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). It does not say single best answer.
  • The number of answer options per question. Not stated.
  • Unscored or trial items. The guideline, the two manuals and the Sheryan FAQ do not mention them.
  • Negative marking. Not mentioned.
  • Sample questions. No official sample set was found in the guideline or on the DHA pages we read.
  • Domain weights. Each title lists coverage headings as a plain list with no percentages. The Assessment Manual says results are calculated from the number of correct answers and the weighting of each domain, but DHA does not publish the weights.
  • Your score. DHA shows pass or fail in your Sheryan account and says the score is not shared.

What Meddex covers

Registered Nurse: the Meddex nurse bank holds 919 original questions tagged for nurses, with full-length timed mocks of 150 questions. The count comes from the question bank when the site is built. The nurse mock uses 50 percent, the figure DHA prints for a Registered Nurse.

The ten study domains in Meddex are our own split, estimated by Meddex, not DHA's. DHA's outline for a Registered Nurse has four headings and no weights. Unit management and leadership has no matching Meddex domain yet, so do not rely on Meddex for that heading alone.

Assistant Nurse: Meddex has one nurse role, built around the Registered Nurse outline. There is no separate Assistant Nurse bank or mock, although the shared fundamentals questions may help.

Midwives: not covered. Meddex has no midwife questions, mocks or flashcards. Registered Midwife and Assistant Midwife are separate exams, and you should use DHA's own content list and references for them.

None of this is a promise of a pass. The questions are original, not DHA questions, and DHA publishes no sample set.
