How to review your mistakes so you stop repeating them

Short answer: Keep an error log. For every question you get wrong, write the topic, why you chose the wrong answer and the one-line rule that would have given you the right one. Review the log every few days and retest the topics that keep appearing.

Why mistakes are useful

A wrong answer shows exactly where your knowledge or your reading is weak. Skipping the explanation wastes that information.

What to write in the log

Keep each entry short.

  1. The topic, such as potassium or consent.
  2. Why you got it wrong: you did not know it, you misread the question or you changed a correct answer.
  3. The rule in one sentence.

Sort your errors by cause

If most errors are knowledge gaps, study the topic. If they are misreadings, slow down and underline the key detail in the stem. If you keep changing correct answers, trust your first choice unless you find a clear reason to switch.

Review on a schedule

Look over new entries within two days, again after a week and again before each mock. Retest the topic with a fresh set of questions to check that the rule has stuck.
